Arabic name : khail, faraasa
Allah Ta’aala says : When pure bred horses of the finest caliber were presented before him one evening. He said , ” Indeed I have given preference to the wealth of this world over the remembrance of my Rabb until it (the sun) hid (set) behind the veil (horizon). Return them to me. ” He then began to strike their legs and manes. ( Surah Saad, verse 31-33).
3 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT HORSES
- Horses have been used by man for riding and transport, carrying goods, pulling arts or ploughing lands. In history, horses were often used in war. Although machinery has replaced horses in many parts of the world, horses, donkeys and mules are still used for agriculture and transportation today.
- All horses can move naturally with four basic forms of walking or running: the four-beat wak, which averages 6.4km per hour, the two beat trot or jog at 13-19km per hour, the canter, a three beat gait that is 19-24km per hour, and the gallop which averages 40,-48km per hour. A horse has been recorded to run at 70.76km per hour
- There are certain jobs that horses do very well, and modern technology cannot replace them. For example mounted police horses are effective for certain types of patrols. Cattle ranches still require riders on horseback to round up cattle that are scattered across remote, rugged terrain. Search and rescue missions in some areas depend upon mounted teams to locate people such as hikers and to provide disaster relief assistance. Horses are also used in areas of rough terrain where vehicles are less effective.
