The incident mentioned below is extracted from Tadhkiratur Rasheed, Pg 115:
Hadhrat Mufti Rasheed Gangohi Rahmatullahi Alaihi took up the courage to present the truth via lengthy correspondences with his honourable Sheikh, Hadhrat Haji Saheb Rahmatullahi Alaihi surrounding the customary occasion of Mawlood (the birth of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) and even warned against this practice. Eventually Mufti Rasheed Ahmed Gangohi Rahmatullahi Alaihi desisted this act (severely), submitting and handing this matter to his Master and he put forward the following letter to his honourable Sheikh:
فيا سيدي لله ان تقبلوا عذري بخلقكم العظيم
O my Sayyid (Leader) due to your loft character, accept my excuse
و لا تصغوا الى كل همّار لمّاز مشّاء بنميم
and do not incline to every slanderer who goes about with calumnies
و لا تخرجوني من الجماعة
and do not expel me from the group
فإني أرجوا أن أكون معكم يوم تأتي الساعة
For indeed, I am hopeful till Qiyamah (the hour) I will be with you
لكن لا تطيق همتي أن انابذ بالمخالفة مع الأعلان
However my courage demands I oppose the difference with an announcement
عسى أن يكون من الله بمكان
Hope is key, that from Allah Ta’alaa at some point the matter will be resolved
نعم التزمت على نفسي انكار طريق يخالف السنة و الكتاب على رأس المنبر و بطن المحراب
Yes, upon the top of the mimbar and the mouth of the Mihraab, I have taken it upon myself to reject the path that opposes the Qur’aan and Sunnah!
After presenting this emotional yet respectful words filled with courage, Hadhrat Gangohi Rahmatullahi Alaihi explains that from this angle there can never be and will never be a pledge of allegiance. Its correctness and incorrectness from a Sheikh who is not an Aalim will be weighed according the true laws of the Shariah. That which is incorrect, you should also regard it as incorrect and that which is correct, then it will be deemed as correct.
In a nutshell, any Sheikh who commands against the Shari’ah then it is not permissible to submit but instead it is compulsory upon the Mureed to inform the Shaikh. The rights between two people is equally applicable on both and the Shuyookh are not infallible. Until a particular instance is not in line with the Shariah and one has solid proofs from the Shari’ah then one should never bow blindly!

The incident above was with a pious Shaikh who was not an Aalim, Hadhrat Haji Imdaadullah Rahmatullahi Alaihi. Mufti Gangohi was full of knowledge and lead by example to propagate the Haqq! Today due to the claimed status given by the masses we find people honoured on account of their ‘knowledge’ climbing off the helicopters and breaking the Sunnah with every step as they do the catwalk down the red carpet and persist in doing that which far exceeds the above mentioned incident. The response given when the truthful address the falsehood is “he is the son of so and so”, “he is the head of so and so madressah”. The reality is that all will be weighed in line with the Shari’ah!
How sad is it not people will blindly follow. How many a time do we find people following certain Sheikh’s blindly into the lizzard’s hole, at times into the hindu temples, churches and synagogues, at times females get caught with such! We can never justify these acts and on the day of Qiyamah, you will seek assistance from them but they will not be bothered of you!
