الرِّبَا سَبْعُونَ حُوبًا أَيْسَرُهَا أَنْ يَنْكِحَ الرَّجُلُ أُمَّه
It was narrated from Hadhrat Abu Hurairah Radhiyallahu Anhu that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“There are seventy degrees of usury, the least of which is equivalent to a man having intercourse with his mother” Sunan Ibn Majah
Note: Just the thought of the above should be sufficient deterrent for any Muslim.
The Curse Of Interest
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah Radhiyallahu Anhu narrates that Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam said:
A time will dawn upon my ummah, when every person will consume interest; if he does not, its smoke will surely affect him.” Sunan Abu Dawud
Note: This prediction of Nabi ﷺ has proven itself. With the modern banking system, interest is naturally accumulated, and a person finds it inevitable to utilize the services of the bank. Very few people are totally immune from the effects of interest.
Curse Of Allah Ta’laa
Sayyiduna Jabir Ibn ‘Abdullah Radhiyallahu Anu narrates that Nabi ﷺ cursed the consumer of interest, the one who feeds it to others, the writer of the transaction as well as the witnesses to it- Sahih Muslim
Note: Any involvement with interest; directly or indirectly, has been prohibited in the hadith, and is therefore haram
Snakes In Their Bellies
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah Radhiyallahu Anhu narratees that Nabi ﷺ said, “On the night I went for Mi’raj, I passed by a group of people whose stomachs were like pits that were full of snakes. I asked Jibril Alaihis-Salaam who these people were, and he informed me that these were people who had consumed interest in this world.” Ibn Majah
