Fatwa of Mufti Ridhaa-ul-Haqq Regarding Women Frequenting Masaajid

There is much talk about posters of women being invited to attend Masaajid and Mufti’s issuing Fatawaa left, right, and centre regarding women exiting the home for Qiyaamul Layl and Nafl I’itikaaf leave alone Fardh Salaah. This Fatwa will open the eyes of all who feel there is some ease in the matter and where they claim falsely that there is exceptional cases in this era albeit hotly red with Fitan:

Lets look at the Fatwa of Mufti Ridhaa-ul-Haqq Saheb’s which is found in Fatawa of Darul Uloom Zakariyya, Volume Two, pg 306 titled:

Women going to the Masjid

Question:

What is the ruling with regard to women going to Masjid in the light of the Qur’aan and Sunnah?

Answer:

It is gauged from the Qur’aan and Sunnah that it is preferable for women to not only perform their Salaah at home but in the deepest recesses of the home. It does not behove purdah-clad women to go to the Masjid bearing in mind the temptation-full era in which we live and when immorality is so rife. Furthermore the pure Sha’riah does not approve of it:

The proofs are as follows:

(1) Allah Ta’alaa says with reference to the pure wives of Rasulullah Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam (who are the mothers of the believers)

Remain in your homes, (Chapter 33; Verse 33)

Thus, how can it be suitable for other women to go to the Masajid for especially when they end up intermingling with the men?

The teaching of Rasülullah sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam as mentioned in the Ahadith is that women should perform their salah in the recesses of their homes. This is the outlook of the Shariah and Rasûlullah sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam liked that women perform their Salaah at home. In it lies following his Sunnah and there is success in following the Sunnah. This was the case with Hadrat Umm Hamid radiyallahu anha and others they practised on the teaching of Rasûlullah sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam and performed salah in their homes throughout their lives.

Observe the following Ahādīth:

(2)

Umm Salamah Radhiyallahu ‘Anha said: The Salaah of a woman in her private chamber is better than Salaah in her room, and her Salaah in her room is better than her salah in her house, and her Salaah in her house is better than her Salaah outside [her house).

(The Faqeeh of this Ummah) Hadhrat Abdullah Ibn Mas’üd radiyallahu ‘anhu said:

The salah of a woman in her private chamber is better than her salah in her room, and her salah in her room is better than her salah in her house, and her salah in her house is better than her salah anywhere else. He (Sallallahu Alayhi wa sallam) then said: When a woman emerges from her house, Shaytan lies in wait for her.

‘Abdullah ibn Mas’üd radiyallahu ‘anhu narrates that Rasûlullāh sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said:

The salah of a woman in her private chamber is better than her salah in her room, and her salah in her closet is better than her salah in her private chamber.”

The closet refers to an inner room within a room. As-Sindī said: It refers to a place where valuables are stored within the room.

Salaah for Women in the Home is Better Than Salaah with Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam

Umm Humayd radiyallahu ‘anha – the wife of Abū Humayd as-Saldi yallahu ‘anhu – relates that Rasûlullah sallallahu said to her.

“I know that you like to perform Salaah with me, but your Salaah in your private chamber is better than your Salaah in your room and your Salaah in your room is better than your Salaah in your house, your salah in your house is better than your salah in your people’s id, and your salah in your people’s masjid is better than your salah my masjid.”

She then issued orders for a salah-place to be prepared for her in the furthest and darkest part of her home, she used to perform her salah there until she passed away.

Umm Salamah radiyallahu ‘anha narrates that Rasûlullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:

The best masajid for women are the inner recesses of their homes.

When a Women Exits her Home Shaytaan lies in Ambush for her

‘Abdullah radiyallahu ‘anhu narrates that Rasûlullah sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said:

A woman is an aurah (something that is to be concealed). When she emerges from her home, Shaytän lies in wait for her. The closest she is to Allah ta’ālā is when she is in the recess of her home.

Women Performing Salaah in the Darkest Part of her Home

‘Abdullah radiyallahu ‘anhu narrates that Rasûlullah sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said:

The most beloved Salah of a woman in the sight of Allah ta’ala is the salah which she performs in the darkest part of her house.

It was also the thinking of Hadrat ‘A’ishah radiyallahu ‘anha that bearing in mind the temptations and corrupt times, women ought to perform their salah in their homes. Hadhrat Aa’isha Radhiyallahu Anha said:

“If Rasûlullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was to see the new things which women have initiated today, he would have forbidden them from the masajid”

This Hadith reads as follows:

‘Allamah Abū Bakr ibn Is-häq ibn Khuzaymah rahimahullah has a special chapter titled: Although there are many virtues in performing salah in Masjid-e-Nabawi, it is better for women to perform their saläh in their homes. The Hadith which makes mention of this virtue is for the men and not for women. He writes:

A Hadith states that it is 25 times better for a woman to perform her salah individually than in congregation:

Note: Upcoming Attractions in shaa Allah: Mufti Ridhaa-ul-Haqq Saheb answers the objection that the excuse is generally given that women were allowed in the time of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam so why are we putting barriers.
