Many people are accustomed to sending money overseas to have their waajib Qurbaani performed on their behalf. If this is done merely to save oneself the “work” and “trouble” (and money), it is indeed reprehensible. This totally breaks the entire spirit of Qurbaani. If we continue with this trend, Allah forbid, it must not happen that our children grow up without ever witnessing the Qurbaani being performed.
A concerted effort must be made to perform our Qurbaani at home. A small effort will be required to set up a basic slaughter facility at home. Inshaa Allah we will be rewarded greatly by Allah Ta’laa for reviving this great sunnah of Rasulullah صلى الله عليه و سلم
Why Miss Out?
Rasulullah صلى الله عليه و سلم said,
“A human does no action from the actions on the day of Nahr more beloved to Allah then spilling blood (of sacrificial animals). On the Day of Judgement, it will appear with its horns, and hair, and hooves, and indeed the blood will be accepted by Allah from where it is received before it even falls upon earth, so let your heart delight in it.”

Slaughtering With Your Own Hand
Hadhrat Anas Ibn Malik رضي الله عنه said:
“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) slaughtered two horned male sheep which were mostly white. He slaughtered them with his hand and mentioned Allah’s Name, and he said ‘Allahu Akbar’, and put his foot on their side.

Knowing The Health Of The Qurbaani Animal
When one decides to slaughter overseas, one is not sure if:
1. The qurbaani animal has really been slaughtered
2. The kind of animal slaughtered was from those acceptable for Qurbaani
3. The health of the qurbaani animal was in an acceptable state
4. There was a few peoples name taken for one animal. One is deceived by the means of deceptive strategies by organisations i.e., (one haram photo or video of one animal being slaughtered sent to many people)
5. The animal was stunned (Stunning is haraam).
6. The size of the honurable qurbaani animal
7. A Muslim slaughtered an animal and if the name of Allah Ta’laa was recited on the animal
8. The animal slaughtered was where the non muslims carry out their rituals
Thus it is vital to slaughter yourself at home in an environment where it is filled with Taqwa, free from intermingling, free from haraam photography and free from boasting.
What Reaches Allah Ta’laa?
Money is being spent but the hearts are not activated really deprives oneself of the spirit of Qurbani. The positivity in responding to the call of Allah Ta’laa in Abul Ambiyaa Alaihis Salaam, the obedience to the instruction of the Sustainer of the universe, casting logic aside, considering the fact that enjoining family ties is really when it is in the obedience of Allah Ta’laa.
Today in the name of family ties much disobedience is perpetrated. People say, “One must not break family ties and attend the family functions” (where the orders of Allah Ta’laa is violated)
The response should be the response of Hadhrat Ibrahim Alaihis Salaam: carrying out this important action out of fear for Allah Ta’laa. This is not a moment to please family. Hadhrat Ibrahim Alaihis Salaam chose the love of Allah Ta’laa over the love of his beloved son.
This was the test of love which Ibrahim Alaihis Salaam passed with obedience we can never imagine. This scene should be considered. How much have we contaminated our acts of ibaadah? The very meaning of Qurbani is to get close to Allah Ta’laa but photography, futility and intermingling has damaged our obedience to Allah Ta’laa.
It supposed to be a heartfelt moment! Allah Ta’laa says:
“It is not their meat or blood that reaches Allah. It is the fealty of your heart that reaches him. That is why He has subjugated them to you that you may glorify Allah Ta’laa for having shown you the way. So give glad tidings to those who are doers of good”
Surah Al-Hajj Chapter 22 Verse 37
