POOR DOES NOT MEAN USELESS

Often people without Islam struggle to understand how there could be value in what the world today throws or pushes away. The earth is recording the oppression that it is witnessing and on the day of Qiyaamah, it will let out its loads. However, Islam came to remove all of this pride and prejudice to give every person an opportunity to struggle for the palaces and pure dwellings with gardens beneath which rivers flow in the true life to come.

Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik Radhiyallahu ‘anhu reported: The Messenger of Allah, Sallallahu ‘alaihi wa Sallam, said,

Whoever is concerned about the Hereafter, Allah will place richness in his heart, bring his affairs together, and the world will inevitably come to him. Whoever is concerned about the world, Allah will place poverty between his eyes, disorder his affairs, and he will get nothing of the world but what is decreed for him.

Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Umar Radhiyallahu anhu reported: The poor emigrants complained to the Messenger of Allah, Sallallahu ‘alaihi wa Sallam, because Allah favored the rich over them.

The Prophet Sallallahu ‘alaihi wa Sallam said,

O you in poverty, I bring you glad tidings that the poor believers will enter Paradise before the rich by half of a day, the length of which is like five hundred years.” Musa ibn ‘Ubaydah recited the verse, “Verily, a day to your Lord is like a thousand years in your count.” (22:47)

Anas narrated that the Messenger of Allah Sallallahu ‘alaihi wa Sallam supplicated:

“O Allah! Cause me to live needy, and cause me to die needy and gather me in the group of the needy on the Day of Resurrection.”

‘Aishah Radhiyallahu anha said: “Why O Messenger of Allah?”

He (Sallallahu ‘alaihi wa Sallam) said: “Indeed they enter Paradise before their rich by forty years. O ‘Aishah! Do not turn away the needy even if with a piece of date. O ‘Aishah! Love the needy and be near them, for indeed Allah will make you near on the Day of Judgement.”
