A Young Spanish woman explained the meaning of “Allah” when Arabs failed

One day, in Jordan, during a second-year class, a Professor asked the students:

“Who among you can explain the name of Allah from a miraculous and phonetic-linguistic perspective?”No one raised their hand—except for a young Spanish woman named Helen. Despite being Spanish and Christian, she spoke fluent Arabic.

She said:“The most beautiful word I have ever read in the Arabic language is ‘Allah.’ This name has a unique musicality in human speech because all its letters are pronounced from the throat rather than the lips. This divine name is not articulated with the lips because it contains no diacritical marks (dots). Now pronounce ‘Allah’ and observe how you say it!You will find that its letters come from the back of your throat without any movement of the lips. This means that if a person wants to mention ‘Allah,’ those around them may not even notice.”

She further explained:“Another miraculous aspect of this name is that even if some of its letters are removed, its meaning remains intact.”

•As we know, the divine name is generally spoken as ‘اللّٰهُ’ (Allahُ).

•If we remove the first letter (Alif), it becomes ‘لِلّٰهِ’ (Lillah), as seen in this Quranic verse:﴿

“And to Allah belong the most beautiful names, so call upon Him by them.” (Surah Al-A’raf: 180)

•If we remove ‘Alif’ and the first ‘Lam,’ it becomes ‘لَهُ’ (Lahu), as in this verse:

لَهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلۡأَرۡضِۗ

“To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth.” (Surah Al-Baqarah: 255)

•If we remove ‘Alif’ and the second ‘Lam,’ only ‘هُوَ’ (Hu) remains, which still refers to Allah, as mentioned in this verse:﴿

“He is Allah, there is no deity except Him.” (Surah Al-Hashr: 22)

•If we remove the first ‘Lam,’ it becomes ‘إِلَـٰه’ (Ilah), as seen in this verse:

ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلۡحَىُّ ٱلۡقَيُّومُ

“Allah, there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all existence.” (Surah Al-Baqarah: 255)“

Scholars have deeply studied the name ‘Allah.’ The statement of Tawheed, ‘لَا إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّه’ (There is no deity except Allah), consists of three letters: Alif, Lam, and Ha. These are light letters that can be pronounced without moving the lips.”

She further clarified:“Do you know why? So that when a person is near death, they can easily say it without needing to move their lips or teeth.”Today, Helen is called ‘Abidah’ (The Worshipper).“We take pride in being Arab Muslims, yet we could not explain the name of Allah. May she be blessed with Islam.”

“Why do we delete messages related to religion but keep forwarding ordinary ones?

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Convey from me, even if it is just one verse.” (Bukhari: 3461)

Perhaps by forwarding this message, you will share a verse that will intercede for you on the Day of Judgment.”

Finally:﴿لَا إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَّسُولُ ٱللَّهِ﴾“There is no deity except Allah, and Muhammad ﷺ is the Messenger of Allah.”
