Allah Ta’alaa says in the Quraan Shareef after mentioning the dedication of the horse in giving his all to his temporary master:
Quran – Surah No. 100 العاديات
Ayah No. 6
اِنَّ الۡاِنۡسَانَ لِرَبِّهٖ لَـكَنُوۡدٌ (6)
Translation:
man is, indeed, very ungrateful to his Sustainer
This depiction a long with the Mushrikeen in the oceans should cause a Muslim to reflect.
Allah Ta’alaa says:
Quran – Surah No. 10 يونس
Ayah No. 22
هُوَ الَّذِىۡ يُسَيِّرُكُمۡ فِى الۡبَرِّ وَالۡبَحۡرِؕ حَتّٰۤى اِذَا كُنۡتُمۡ فِى الۡفُلۡكِ ۚ وَ جَرَيۡنَ بِهِمۡ بِرِيۡحٍ طَيِّبَةٍ وَّفَرِحُوۡا بِهَا جَآءَتۡهَا رِيۡحٌ عَاصِفٌ وَّجَآءَهُمُ الۡمَوۡجُ مِنۡ كُلِّ مَكَانٍ وَّظَنُّوۡۤا اَنَّهُمۡ اُحِيۡطَ بِهِمۡ ۙ دَعَوُا اللّٰهَ مُخۡلِصِيۡنَ لَـهُ الدِّيۡنَۙ لَئِنۡ اَنۡجَيۡتَـنَا مِنۡ هٰذِهٖ لَنَكُوۡنَنَّ مِنَ الشّٰكِرِيۡنَ
Translation: He is the One who enables you to travel on land and at sea, until when you are in the boats and they sail with those on board under a good wind and they are pleased with it, there comes upon them a violent wind, and the wave comes upon them from many sides. And (when) they think that they are encircled, they pray to Allah, having faith in Him alone, (and say,) “If You deliver us from this, we shall be grateful indeed.“
Lesson:
The Mushrikeen had this bad quality of when they are in trouble they turn to Allah Ta’alaa. Immediately when they rescued, they return to Shirk.
As Muslims, we still within the day revered months namely, Dhul Hijjah and the month that follows, Muharram. These days of of Hajj and Qurbaani we learnt about Sayyiduna Ibrahim Alaihis Salam and this quality of Haneef (directing all attention to the Allah Ta’alaa exclusively where no person, be it his father or community could come in the way of him and Allah Ta’alaa).
We are not Mushrikeen, Alhamdulillah, but are we devoted to Allah Ta’alaa?
Are we seasonal worshippers?
The Mushrikeen, when they were rescued from difficulties,they immediately returned to Shirk.
As Muslims, Allah Ta’alaa saved us from Shirk, Alhamdulillah, but will we return to vice and transgression?
Quran – Surah No. 10 يونس
Ayah No. 23
Translation:
But when He delivers them, they at once start rebelling on the earth wrongfully.
Allah Ta’alaa in the same verse warns humanity at large:
people, your rebellion is, in fact, against your own selves. (It is nothing but) an enjoyment of the worldly life. Therefore, to Us you are to return, then We shall tell you what you have been doing
Gratitude is in fact using every limb, every cent and every breath for His Worship, whether in hardships or ease.
May Allah Ta’alaa give us the Tawfeeq. Aameen.
