Question: What is wrong with soccer? I am just kicking a ball? Some of you Ulamaa are too strict!
Answer: One of the functions of the Ulamaa is to teach what is going to save the Ummah from a painful punishment in this world and the hereafter. Today ‘strict’ has been coined by almost every person who wishes to remain stuck on a particular path, nevertheless, Ambiyaa Alaimus Salaam teaches the true seekers to have great levels of tolerance, and they serve as role models for the Ummah at large! As oppossed to soccer stars who lead us closer and closer to the blaze yet remain unmoved by their supporters existence forget name or details. Strict or not, the Hukam of Allah Ta’alaa must be enforced. If you follow the true guidance of Allah Ta’alaa, on the day of Qiyaamah it will save yourself and you will be appreciative to those who assisted you!
Soccer or any sporting star will ever care for you that you do not get burnt? No, they are only interested in serving their pockets! Now let us talk about soccer!
Fresh out of the month of Ramadhaan, if you were not wasting 90 minutes either playing or watching soccer, you would have read the verse:
Know that the life of this world is but amusement and diversion and adornment and boasting to one another and competition in increase of wealth and children – like the example of a rain whose [resulting] plant growth pleases the tillers; then it dries and you see it turned yellow; then it becomes [scattered] debris.
Suratul Hadeed, Verse 20
Look at the verse again and witness how soccer takes you further from Allah Ta’alaa and enables you to be head over boots engrossing you further in this worldly life:
1. Amusement – Soccer has allowed the Ummah to move away from remembering Allah Ta’alaa and caused the entertainment to settle in the hearts of this Ummah
2. Diversion – Attention is glued to the stadium.
3. Adornment – Youth adorning themselves with the clothing of their soccer stars and teams.
4. Boasting – Who can be the better player! Whose team won!
5. Competition in increasing wealth and children – The wealth squandered in world cup and major matches, FIFA PlayStation and PC games, soccer kits, styles of their famous star. Children burn up their lives as they become addicts to their parents football passion. Parents ensure they cut the hair of their kids in accordance to their star, considering it cute when father and son wear the same club kit. Forget brothers, now sisters will not talk to each other because they on opposing teams. So called Muslim schools with fancy names have stressed the importance of soccer to the daughters of this Ummah to such that they have fights due to their teams winning and losing! Yes, do not live in a fantasy league, this is a reality!
Whilst so much of time and health is wasted in futility, Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam said:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “There are two blessings that many people are deceived into losing: health and free time.”

Some say they play to keep healthy but is this true? Here is a portion of an article from ‘Mens Journal’ where a study was conducted regarding the knees of such athletes:
Elite-level athletes who play soccer, run long distance, compete in Olympic weightlifting, or wrestle are 3-7 times more likely to suffer from osteoarthritis in their knees than comparably elite basketball players, boxers, or track and field athletes, researchers found.
In the study, researchers conducted a systematic review of six databases, analyzing the link between sport and osteoarthritis among nearly 3,800 athletes. In general, about 45% of athletes suffer knee osteoarthritis—but that risk increases to 57% among athletes with knee injuries, and rises to 61% among former athletes who become obese, the researchers say. The osteoarthritis risk is correlated with a sport’s intensity, the researchers say—sports like running and weightlifting place higher demands on knee joints, while soccer and wrestling often involve knee twisting under stress.

Kicking or if one is lazy then watching a ball being kicked for 90 minutes and if there is extra time, more time is squandered? Is that intelligent?

Do we not ever ponder over the fact that why do so many soccer players dope and commit suicide? Here are TWENTY SOCCER STARS who are gay:

- Anton Hysén – Hysen is a Swedish defender who played professionally from 2010-2015

- Phuti Lekoloane – The South African footballer became Africa’s first out, gay male footballer when he came out in 2015.

#4 Gary Speed (1969-2011) – He was termed one of the best player in the English league for over decade but then was found hanging in his garage.
#5 Carlos Jose Castilho (1927-1987) – He jumped out of his apartment window.
#6 Hughie Gallacher (1903-1957) – Walked infront of an express train.
#7 Hughie Ferguson (1898-1930) – Gassed himself after a training session.
The list goes and on and on, we have become tired of typing their names too, however in shaa Allah this will be enough to drive any reader from such futility with an evil agenda. How many Muslims today support “the red devils”? So wait a minute, you happily confirm and testify not to the Kalimah but the support of the Devil. Can a Muslim support Shaytaan and still says he follows Allah Ta’alaa and Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam?
Once Allah Ta’alaa has given you Imaan then look at our true role models, Sayyiduna Moosa Alaihis Salaam made Dua:
قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَآ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَىَّ فَلَنْ أَكُونَ ظَهِيرًۭا لِّلْمُجْرِمِينَ
Sayyiduna Moosa Alaihis Salaam pledged:, “My Sustainer due to Your favour upon me, I will never side with the wicked.”

Sayyiduna Uqbah ibn Aamir Radhiyallahu ‘Anhu:
I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: Allah, Most High, will cause three persons to enter Paradise for one arrow: the maker when he has a good motive in making it, the one who shoots it, and the one who hands it; so shoot and ride, but your shooting is dearer to me than your riding. Everything with which a man amuses himself is vain except three (things): a man’s training of his horse, his playing with his wife, and his shooting with his bow and arrow. If anyone abandons archery after becoming an adept through distaste for it, it is a blessing he has abandoned; or he said: for which he has been ungrateful.
