SWEEPERS OF ALLAH TA’ALAA

You disregard the occupation of a sweeper but do you not see those who have given up major occupations to sweep Masjidul Haraam and Masjidun Nabawi Sallallahu ‘alaihi wa Sallam? They reckon, “it is an honour, Allah Ta’alaa has chosen us!”

Gratitude to Allah Ta’alaa for giving us an opportunity to do good is the really the practice of the Ambiyaa Alaihimus Salaam. While it is a sign of believer to wish to do more, allowing those feelings to escalate to total despondency for not doing more is the sign of the Kuffaar.

Allah Ta’alaa reproduced the statement of Sayyiduna Ya’coob Alaihis Salaam in His Kalaam for this Ummah of Rasulullah Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam to take full benefit. Sayyiduna Ya’coob Alaihis Salaam despite the circumstances advised his sons:

0 my sons, go and search for Yusuf and his brother, and do not lose hope in the mercy of Allah. In fact, only the infidels (kuffaar) lose hope in the mercy of Allah.”

Surah Yusuf, Verse 87

Our pious seniors today teach us that expressing gratitude for doing even a little would ideally go a longer way and why not when Allah Ta’alaa announces in Surah Ibrahim, Verse 7,

“If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor], but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.”

We know and it is the belief of every single Mu’min that the Ambiyaa Alaihumus Salaam are Ma’soom (free from sin) and when it comes to the Noble Sahaabah Radhiyallahu ‘Anhum, our belief is they were Mahfooth (protected from passing away with any sin on their names). Despite being free from sin, this quality of gratitude was found to an enormous degree in the noble life of Habeeb Sallallahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam to such an extent He Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam would exert himself so much in gratitude like how we do not exert ourselves with our huge records of major sins.

Sayyiduna Aa’ishah Radhiyallahu Anha says,

The Prophet (ﷺ) kept standing (in prayer) so long that the skin of his feet would crack

I asked him:  “Why do you do this, while you have been forgiven of your former and latter sins?”

He said, “Should I not be a grateful slave of Allah?”

Do not undermine any good action

Rasulullah ﷺ said,

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Do not belittle any good deed, even meeting your brother (Muslim) with a cheerful face”.

Muslim 2626

The Ambiyaa Alaihimus Salaam were noble, we are just the sweepers of Allah Ta’alaa attempting to clean the earth from vice and sin!

“Don’t you see the sweeper who is employed by the government? He proudly says, “you know who am I? I work for the government?”. Many consider his task to be of no worth but because he represents the government, he boasts this affiliation. Do not underestimate the tawfeeq Allah Ta’alaa has given us to do, even if it be a little bit for His Deen. Consider this a bounty and express gratitude!

Mufti Haashim Boda Saheb

After all we are the Fuqaraa thus we can never be proud or arrogant.

O mankind, you are those in need of Allah, while Allah is Al-Ghani (Free of need), Al-Hameed (the Praiseworthy).

Surah Faatir, verse 15

We may not be on the battlefield though we wish to

Little voices, little pockets, little messages of Haqq is being promoted, then too, do not disregard it. Honour it. Make Istighfaar for our shortcomings. Improve ourselves. Continue!
