The Durood of Moulana Zakariyya Khandlawi that Rasulullah Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam liked

A Letter to Hadhrat Moulana Zakariyya Khandlawi Rahmatullahi Alaihi reads:

Respected Master Hazrat Maulana Zakariyya. (May Allah bless the Muslims by granting you long life.)

Assalaamu Alaikum I hope that you are in good health. The reason for writing to you is this that during I’tikaaf in Ramadhaan, that Nabi Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam gave me some glad tidings, which I could not explain there and then.

Rasulullah Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said to me:

“Maulana Zakariyya in writing ‘Fazaa’il Durood’ has overtaken all of his contemporaries.”

I was greatly surprised because I always was under the impression that your other services to Hadith and Deen were superior in quality.

Later this doubt was cleared away. It was then that I realized, that this book Fazaa’il Durood was the product of your love for Nabi Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. As a result of this, you have overtaken the others.

Furthermore, some time ago Nabi Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam gave me a piece of glad tidings that you recite a special Salawaat (durood) or Qasida every Friday, which pleases Nabi Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam much and is very well liked by him Sallallahu alayhi wa Sallam. If indeed this is so, kindly inform me thereof, which I will appreciate greatly.

I also wish to inquire from you whether he fact that Nabi Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam appears in one’s dream, is a result of any special virtue or merely a case of ‘kashf'(inspiration). Furthermore, what is more authentic – the words spoken by Nabi Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in a dream or the words perceived during kashf?

When I was in Aligarh, some people inquired from whether Bhai Khaalid has received Ijaazat Bay’at from your or not. Because I was not aware of the facts I expressed to them my ignorance of this. If indeed Hazrat did give him permission, kindly inform me. In Meerut also some people inquired by me whether Maulana Masood Ilahi has received Ijaazat for Bay’at from you or not.

I await the reply. I beg of you your duas and spiritual attentions, especially for the completion of Daura Hadith.

Answer by Hadhrat Moulana Zakariyya Khandlawi Rahmatullahi Alaihi:

Received and replied on the 28th Shawwaal

May Allah cause this dream to become a cause of blessings for me and for you. For something to be liked and appreciated, there is no need for it to be of high quality. Even the fact that a prostitute gave water to a dying dog was liked and appreciated (By Allah and brought pardon to her).

The fact that Nabi Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam’s appearance in a dream is authentic, is proven from authentic hadith. However in kashf there is no sound proof for it and it’s correctness depends largely upon the high rank of the person experiencing kashf.

For the last 25 to 30 years, it has been a practice of mine to recite the following 80 times after Asr on fridays:

“Allahumma salli Alaa sayyidinaa Muhammada nin Nabiyyil ummi-yi wa Alaa aalihee wa sallama tasleemaa.”

After the completion of the writing of Fazaa’il Durood, I sometimes have had the opportunity of listening to the last 2 qasidas of Mulla Jami and Maulana Nanotwi.

Finally, Khalid does not have ‘Ijaazat’, but Masood Ilahi has.

Wassallam (End of Moulana Zakariyya Khandlawi Rahmatullahi Alaihi’s reply)

Lesson:

In this correspondence for Jumu’ah specifically we learn:

  1. The value of the virtues of Durood compiled by Hadhrat Moulana Zakariyya Rahmatullahi Alaihi
  2. The time after Asr on a Jumu’ah is noble and to engage in the above mentioned durood by Hadhrat Sheikh 80 times is meritorious. The evidence of this is presented below:

Reciting Durood 80 times after Asr on a Jumu’ah:
According to a Hadith recorded in Tabarani on the authority of Abdullah Ibn Abbas (Radhiyallahu Anhu) : Hadhrat Abu Hurraira (Radhiyallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:

“Whoever recites the following Durood eighty times immediately after Asr Salaat on Friday, before standing up from his place, Allah will forgive eighty years of sins and grant him the reward equivalent to eighty years of worship.”

Allahumma salli alaa muhammadinin nabiyyil ummiyyi wa-ala aalihi wasallim tasleema

This glad tidings in the above correspondence was given as good news via a dream, and with regards to a dream of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam, Hadhrat Abu Huraira Radhiyallahu ‘anhu reported: The Messenger of Allah Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said,

“Whoever sees me in a dream has truly seen me, for Satan cannot assume my form.”

صحيح البخاري كتاب التعبير باب من رأى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم في المنام 6592

صحيح مسلم كتاب الرؤيا باب قول النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم من رآني في المنام فقد رآني 2266

One should also be aware of the warning with regards to fabricating dreams:

Rasulullah Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said,

Hadhrat Wathilah ibn al-Asqa’ Radhiyallahu anhu reported: The Messenger of Allah Sallallahu alayhi wa Sallam said,

“Verily, the worst of lies are for a man to claim lineage from someone other than his father, or that he saw a dream he did not see, or to say the Messenger of Allah said what he did not say.”
