THE ADVICE OF A SAINT

Hadhrat Imaam Ghazali Rahmatullahi Alayhi states:

“Listen attentively to the advice of a Buzrug:

“Allah Ta’laa has concealed His pleasure in His obedience. Therefore, regardless of how small an act of ibaadah or obedience may be, do not regard it as insignificant. How do you know, it may be that Allah’s pleasure is concealed in this very act of ibaadah/obedience.

Similarly, Allah Ta’laa has concealed His displeasure and anger in disobedience/sin. Therefore, no matter how small the sin may(appear to) be, do not regard it to be trivial. How do you know, it may be that Allah’s displeasure and anger is concealed in this very sin.

Likewise, Allah Ta’laa has concealed His friendship and (Divine) proximity amongst His servants. Therefore, no matter what kind of sinner a person may be, do not look at him with disdain. It may be that Allah’s pleasure is concealed in some action of the sinner and after the person’s death this suddenly becomes apparent.”
